The Launceston Kart Club held the Tasmanian Master's Titles today with over eighty competitors from the age of thirty upwards competing. Team Green Racing competed in the A1 Evolution Light category for 40 to 47 year-old drivers.

We had decided to remove the bolts in the centre bearing in an attempt to reduce the turn-in oversteer and we also used a 79 tooth rear sprocket for the first time to see if it would offer a better compromise.

Race one saw driver Robert Green start from eighth position on the grid. The kart felt good as it was well balanced. With the new brakes also instilling confidence, Robert was able to work his way up to fifth place by race end.

Robert started race two from seventh on the grid, but suffered from a power loss on left hand corners. Eventually he realised that his race suit was being sucked into the air box, but by this time he was well and truly trailing the field. Last place was not the hoped for result after a strong first race.

The poor result in race two led to an eleventh place grid spot for race three. In traffic Robert immediately found that the 79 tooth sprocket was robbing the kart of top end speed on the main straight. This left him unable to pass those in front, but more significantly vulnerable to those behind him. Sure enough, on lap three, Robert looked over his shoulder at the end of the main straight to find Geoff Warren overtaking him fully sideways into the hairpin. Robert was unable to slow the kart down enough to steer to the inside of Geoff's out of control kart and was t-boned in the left hand sidepod. No major damage was sustained, but both karts were out of the race.

The final race of the day was a handicap race and given the lack of results from the earlier races, the

Team Green Racing kart started from fifth on the grid, with Geoff Warren starting from second place. We went back to a 78 tooth rear sprocket, which proved to be a better compromise. The kart again felt good and we were able to progress quickly through the field, taking second place with a daring passing manoeuvre into the turn eight hairpin on the second last lap. Geoff, however, had made the most of his grid position to snatch the lead and establish a decent gap which Robert was unable to close. Nevertheless, second place and a new personal lap record of 41.13 seconds was a positive way to end what had been an eventful day.

David Reading took out the overall first place in class for the day ahead of David Cramp, with Chris Price again taking out third place and proving to be a force to be reckoned with as the season progresses.
