Team Green Racing ventured out to the Archerville circuit today for mechanical checks in preparation for this weekend's Master's meeting.
The day also marked the first outing for the Team's new livery which we will use at the State Titles in November and throughout 2007. The new kart livery for the State Titles and 2007 makes its first appearance We have replaced the rear axle since the last race meeting and whilst it was out took the opportunity to have the brake rotor machined at a "reputable" saw service establishment. Attempt one saw the disc returned with a chamfer on the face where the machining drum had grabbed. With it being unusable in this state, the disc was machined for a second time and came back with so little thickness left in it that we felt it could not be safely used. Needless to say we will not be availing ourselves of their services in the future. An outlay of $135 now has us the proud owners of a brand new disc rotor, and with a straight axle in the back of the kart we hit the track to bed in the new disc and the brake pads. After slowly bringing the disc into condition over twenty-odd laps, it was time to really ride it hard to get some temperature into the metal. The new brake rotor was far more progressive providing vastly improved feel Maybe the machining fiasco was a blessing in disguise, as Robert reported that the brake was no longer nipping up under hard braking. We suspect that the old disc was more badly warped than we realised and with a truer disc now fitted, the braking feel had been enhanced significantly. Geoff Warren also took the opportunity to test the Team Green Racing Arrow, and his feedback provided some valuable pointers for future setup directions.
