The 2006 Castrol Cup gave a fitting send off for Southern Tasmanian Kart Club's old Orielton circuit. A cold and windy day greeted the competitors at the track.

With Robert still on his provisional licence, Team Green Racing's entry started the first race from the rear of the combined over 40's grid in seventeenth position. Still learning the track, it was decided to drive to finish, and this goal was achieved, with a twelfth place finish being an added bonus.

The second race was a similar affair, with a position seventeen starting place being converted into a thirteenth place finish. The kart handled well, but times were slow as we were in traffic all race.

For race three it was decided that the gearing needed to be lowered as maximum revs in race two were only 10,160. A 75 tooth rear was fitted and the benefit was felt immediately, with more punch out of the slower corners.

Starting fourteenth, Robert used the extra acceleration to his advantage, passing six of his competitors to finish eighth overall and fifth in class.

Encouraged by the race three result, we again lowered the gearing with a 78 tooth rear for the final. Grid position fourteen was always going to make a good result hard to achieve, but Robert made a good start to be well placed for a run out of the first chicane. Unfortunately, a three kart accident in the second part of the chicane on the very first lap virtually blocked the track and Robert was next on the scene. He managed to avoid the carnage, but unfortunately slowed down too much and the engine again stalled.

From then on we were spectating and were treated to some great racing, with Steve Crocker ultimately winning the over 40 light class from Lyn Cengia with David Reading in third place.

In the feature race Brendan Dimsey deservedly won the Castrol Cup after a five race battle with Jason White.

The spectators were treated to some great racing, with the twin engined monsters getting airborne over the hump on the back straight. Jason entertained the crowd with some huge slides into the last chicane, but this eventually caught him out and he spun whilst in the lead of one heat, handing the race and possibly the Cup to Brendan.

Team Green Racing's next meeting will be the final round of the Launceston Kart Club's 2006 Club series which is to be held on 30 July.
