Inspired by a visit to the Australian Grand Prix, Team Green Racing embarked on its second test at Archerville today.
Another fine day greeted the team at the track, but unlike the first test session, the day was cool and the track was cold and slightly dirty. The purpose of the test was simply for driver Robert Green to get some more mileage and attempt to achieve consistent times throughout each session. The team did not intend to make any setup adjustments, as these changes tend to be pointless until the driver is able to achieve consistent lap times to within a tenth of a second per lap. Unfortunately we were rather bewildered by the results of the test. The best time for the day was a 42.04 second lap, a full four-tenths slower than the best time from the first test day. The most likely explanation can be found in the track conditions encountered today. Driver Robert Green felt that the balance of the kart was not ideal, with significant turn-in oversteer being experienced throughout the test. "It's disappointing to go backwards with the lap times, and the oversteer makes it difficult to progress." Although the times were reasonably slow, they were consistent and as a result the team intends to start running through a programme of set-up changes in its next test, which is scheduled to be held in three week's time. |
