We took delivery of our new race engine from Gyrotune today.
An uneventful trip in beautiful weather from Launceston to Dunalley in Tasmania's south resulted in a productive meeting with Gyro and a brand new shiny Yamaha KT100J motor. Gyro has left the engine tight because, as he quite rightly says, the slowest part of the kart for the first twelve months will be the driver! We have had a SSS clutch fitted to the motor, a recent innovation in the National class which should allow for easier and safer starting and just as importantly will hopefully allow the engine to keep running in the even of a spin. Instead of push starting, the motor is started by an external electronic spiggot drive. The next stage of the build process for the kart will be to determine the best location for the few ancillaries that a J motor actually does have. |
